No Such Thing Eh?

Whether it's by a school teacher, an instructor, or even a parent, we have all heard this same line.  "There is no such thing as a dumb question."  Well.... just going through my day I can name a few that I believe contradict this saying [:

Dumb question #1 -  The 'what if' questions.

    • "What if I get sick and can't come to school.... will the project still need to be turned in that day?"  They ask this just after the teacher explains that no matter what, the project must be turned in that day... Great listener right? [:
    • "What if I told you I didn't like that... would you be upset?"  This is the kind of question that is used to 'hide' the fact that they are not a fan of the present you spent months and months searching for and saved up for because you thought it would make them sooo happy.  No I wouldn't be upset [:  I love knowing my time and money was wasted [:  Thank you, kind person [:
Dumb question #2-  The 'what did you say' questions.
    • "What did you say?"  This question is commonly asked when someone claims they didn't hear you.  When you choose to say never mind, they just happen to repeat exactly what you said.  Um.... why would you ask what I said if you obviously know what I said?  Guess my voice is much nicer to hear than I thought it was [:
    • "What did you say?!"  Although the same question as before, this is used to express shock.  I'm not entirely sure what good this question does in the context, because when the person sharing the news repeats themselves, the news doesn't magically change into something else.  It's still the same, boring news they shared the first time [:
Dumb question #3- The 'do you want me to tell the truth' questions.
    • "Do you want me to tell the truth?"  No, I just asked what you think because I wanted to get false opinions [:
    • "Do you want me to tell the truth?"  No, I just assumed we both knew I wanted to hear a lie [:  Did you not get the memo I sent out to everyone saying I never want someone to be honest when I ask them something?  Sad day...
Of course there are many other examples of dumb questions, but that could take hours to write about all of them.  So there is no such thing as a dumb question??  Yeeaahh...no [:
